Southport and Ormskirk Hospital has been recognised as one of the best NHS trusts in the North West for patient safety. The independent findings by Dr Foster Intelligence ranked the Trust sixth out of 23 in a study which looked at a basket of patient safety, clinical effectiveness and patient experience indicators.

News Headline Lung Cancer Awareness Month - 24/11/2009

As part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Sue Summerfield & Janet Thompson, Macmillan Lung nurses based at Southport and Formby District General Hospitals, arranged a lung cancer educational day for healthcare professionals at the Terrence Burgees Educational Centre at Queenscourt Hospice. There have also been information awareness displays at both Southport and Ormskirk District General Hospitals during November.

Ashley Langley aged 23 of Skelmersdale was given a six-month Community Punishment Order at Southport Magistrates Court last week following his arrest at Southport Accident & Emergency Department in July this year. He was also ordered to pay £65 court costs. (full story)

Thankfully, such instances are rare, but nevertheless they still bring about deep feelings of despair and grief. Baby loss is one of the most traumatic experiences a family can go through. News Headline Trust again asks for co-operation with smoking policy - 27/08/2009
Once again, Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is asking patients and visitors to co-operate with its request that they do not smoke on its premises. Since the Trust declared it was going Smokefree in January 2006, most people who smoke have abided by the request to not to do so in the buildings or grounds of both Ormskirk and Southport hospitals. However, there are a small number of people, both patients and visitors who insist on smoking in the grounds, mainly outside the entrances. (full story)

News Headline Every patient who needed clot busting treatment received it within target time - 03/07/2009
For someone suffering a heart attack the speed with which they can get access to a particular drug known as thrombolytic treatment can literally be a matter of life and death. Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is one of only three Trusts in the country who were able to give this treatment to every patient who needed it within the target time of 30 minutes after arriving at hospital.
