10 September 2007 at 15:40
Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is pleased to announce that Mrs Jackie Citarella has been re-appointed as a Non-executive Director of the Trust Board from 1 September 2007. Mrs Citarella first joined the Trust as a Non-executive Director in September 2003, and she has been re-appointed to serve until August 2011.

As a hospital Trust providing comprehensive acute care to the 240,000 or so population of Sefton and West Lancashire, we are obliged by law to have a Trust Board that includes a Chair and five Non-executive Directors.

Mrs Citarella, who lives in Newburgh, Wigan, studied psychology at Cardiff University followed by a social work qualification and a Masters degree in Human Rights and Equal Opportunities in 1992. She worked as a probation officer in London, as a relief officer in charge of old people's homes and more recently as a tutor with the Open University.

Currently she is working in a voluntary capacity within the local community as a Parish Councillor in Newburgh, is a Governor on the Board of two local schools and is involved with the local Amnesty International group, the Labour Party and was until recently a member of West Lancs Community Health Council.

As part of her responsibilities as a Non Executive Director, Mrs Citarella chairs the Audit Committee.

The appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice and all Non-executive appointments are made and on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointee’s political activity (if any) to be made public: Mrs Citarella has declared that she is an active member of the labour party. Similarly, details of any other Ministerial appointments held are to be declared, but Mrs Citarella holds none. She will be paid a remuneration of £5,875 per annum.
